across our nation to provide a systematic approach for overcoming institutionalized
prejudices such as racism and to move people from complaining and describing issues
to thoughtfully making change.
Overcoming prejudices such as racism is a formidable mission
that requires sustained effort over many years.
Educating people to understand and to recognize racism is an important first step. However, without tools for personal healing and institutional change, local efforts can stagnate into mere words. This lack of knowledge and skills, to go beyond recognition to thoughtful action, causes many local and nationwide efforts to lose momentum.
Sustained effort requires not only educational training
but a way to support those program graduates.
Each of our four levels of training builds on the knowledge base of the previous level.
understanding and recognition--Level 1 personal healing and individual action--Level 2 strategic planning and institutional change--Level 3 addressing internalized oppression--Level 4
